No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
