Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he enjoyed gambling on various card games when he was young. He found himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his father. After finishing high school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little while and relocated to New York to play some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were tough as he played countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He made some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He judged he could improve his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more rest and focus more on poker.
The real improvement in his game began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would regularly wager against one another. He was able to access several of the best players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his cunning thinking abilities. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL hold’em.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a superb student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard moved to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the successive 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
