Horrible Fortune in Poker
October 24th, 2009 by Miranda

For a game where the majority of participants occasionally consider fortune, there are lots of superstitions in poker. When you mention that a player was blessed in that poker tournament they won, be careful of how you say it. For instance, if you mention that you were unfortunate, your fortune may not change.

Ok, that might sound a bit strange, but poker is a casino game armed with superstitions. Did you know that if you are wagering a game with 2 different decks and you are asked to pick the deck, you should always pick the deck of cards that’s furthest from you? Or, what If you get a run of bad cards, you need to sit on a hankerchief to destroy your poor luck? It is actually thought of as good fortune to blow through a pack of cards when they’re being randomized.

A few other interesting poker folklores are:

  • You might be able to change the run of cards by going around your chair three times.
  • The luckiest position at the poker table faces the entry.
  • The most detrimental chair has its rear to a fireplace.
  • When altering chairs, you really should always do so clockwise.
  • The unluckiest poker card is the four of clubs.
  • It’s very unlucky to sit with your legs crossed at the poker table.
  • Mon is a horrible day for gambling on cards.
  • The 13th is also a bad day, regardless of when it falls during the week.
