Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
